In addition she is a certified American Sailing Association instructor certified to teach Basic Keel Boat, Basic Coastal Cruising, Bareboat (Intermediate) Cruising as well as Coastal Navigation. Yvonne holds a USCG 50 Ton Masters License with an Auxiliary Sailing Endorsement. These days, winter months are spent teaching 21 violin students in her Suzuki violin studio, playing with the McLean Symphony Orchestra and tries not to be the weak link in a chamber music quartet that she loves very much. Her USAFR time was spent training aircrews about safety at altitude, crew resource management and mishap prevention as an aerospace physiologist. What else? Yvonne is a United States Air Force Reserve (USAFR) Lieutenant Colonel, retired 2014. Since her families' return, Yvonne teaches for JWorld Annapolis, Sailtime and volunteers with Sea Scout Ship 1942 in addition to her work as a charter Captain for Shardana. They all work well, and the final decision should be a matter of personal taste. In 2013 Yvonne and her family threw caution to the wind and sailed from Chesapeake Bay to Georgetown, Bahamas and back for a year. As an adult, Yvonne has sailed/owned a number of small boats around Texas, Arkansas, and Virginia. She also sailed the English Channel from the Thames River, England to Calais, France and surrounding coastlines as a teen. Sailing with her dad on Galveston Bay, her youth was filled with long summer days sailing into the sunset. I’ll post updates as details become available.Sailing at two weeks of age, Captain Yvonne Brandt is a salty old girl but only remark on her beauty and grace. While there are still many details that are far from final, I can confirm that the people behind this space are the same folks behind Georgetown’s George and Glover Park’s Mason Inn. I’m hopeful this will happen as the building has often struck me as being plain. There is also the possibility that the front of the building might get a facelift. They are currently investigating multiple options to provide food in the new business - options that include possibly adding a kitchen to the space or providing a dedicated parking pad in the rear of the property for food truck service. We also spent a good deal of time discussing food and the new team realizes that Blue Banana’s lack of food was a key flaw in the business plan. They also hope to increase their patio space (hence the initial thought of including Patio in a new name). Based on the (draft) plans I’ve seen, it appears that they may be increasing their seating. Within the building, they are planning a significant remodel - something more low key and comfortable. I have to admit coming up with a good business name is hard. In fact, if you have an idea for a name post it below. While Petworth Patio was an early contender for a relaunch, I can genuinely report that the operators are open to suggestions and have not settled on a name at this time. I’m happy to report that I have met with the interested parties and have some actual facts. As nothing was definite - I chose not to post anything until I’d had a chance to meet with the new business operators and separate fact from fiction. I was first alerted on August 8th that a rumor was circulating in the area that a new “K Street Lounge”-type of establishment under the name Petworth Patio might be opening at 3632 Georgia Avenue. The former Blue Banana space at 3632 Georgia Ave., NW.įor the past few days, I’ve been having neighbor’s ask me if I was aware of the scuttlebutt that the Blue Banana was going to reopen as the Petworth Patio.
